Privacy Policy
How Voice Recorder handles your information — and why the audio you record stays on your device.
Pro App LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Voice Recorder app ("Voice Recorder," "the app"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. By downloading, installing, or using Voice Recorder, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Everything you record is saved locally on your device. We do not upload your recordings, copy them to our servers, or listen to them, and we never receive the contents of your audio or your transcripts. Deleting a recording in the app removes it from your device. There are two exceptions, and neither one sends anything to us. If you turn on iCloud sync, your recordings are copied to your own private iCloud account (see Section 2) — Apple stores them for you, and we have no access to that account. And as described in Section 3, for languages and devices where on-device speech recognition isn't available, the audio you choose to transcribe is sent to Apple's speech recognition service — to Apple, never to us.

1. Information We Collect
We aim to collect as little as possible. You can use Voice Recorder's core features — recording, playback, organising and transcribing — without creating an account or giving us any personal information.
Information you provide
Nothing is required to use the app. We only receive information you choose to send us — for example, if you email our support team at [email protected], we will see your email address and whatever you write in your message so we can help you.
Information collected automatically
When you use the app, we and our analytics providers may automatically collect technical and usage information, including your device model, operating system version, app version, device language, coarse in-app usage and analytics events (such as which screens you open or which features you use), crash and diagnostic data, and your approximate region derived from your IP address. We use Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics and Firestore) for this, and we also record purchase events — which subscription was bought, when, and from which screen — so we can measure our own App Store campaigns. In the free version, our advertising partner Google AdMob also receives technical information about your device (such as model, operating system, IP address and — only with your tracking permission — the advertising identifier) in order to serve and measure ads, as described in Section 5. This information is used in aggregate to keep the app stable and to understand which features are useful. It never includes the contents of your recordings or transcripts.
Advertising identifier & campaign measurement
With your permission, given through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, the free version lets Google AdMob use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to serve more relevant, personalized ads (see Section 5). If you decline, the IDFA is not used and ads are simply non-personalized. Separately — and regardless of that choice — the app uses the identifier for vendor (IDFV), an identifier that belongs to this app on this device and is reset when you delete the app. We store it, together with the campaign information Apple's AdServices framework returns for Apple Search Ads and with your purchase events, in our own Firebase project, so we can tell how many people who install the app from one of our own App Store ads go on to subscribe. That Firebase data stays with us: it is never sold and never shared with data brokers.
Purchase information
If you buy Voice Recorder PRO, your purchase and subscription status are processed by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). We receive confirmation of your purchase status so we can unlock PRO features, but we never receive or store your card number or any payment details — those are handled entirely by Apple.
2. Your Recordings
Audio you record is written to storage on your own device, inside the app's own folder. The same is true of the transcripts the app generates and of any file names you give them. We do not upload, stream, store, analyze, or share your recordings or transcripts, and no one at our company can access them.
Because your recordings live only on your device, we cannot recover a recording you delete, and we cannot retrieve your files if your device is lost, reset, or damaged. If a recording matters to you, share it to your own cloud storage or computer as a backup. You can move your recordings off the device at any time using the app's share options or by copying them out through Finder (or iTunes on Windows) when your device is connected to a computer.
iCloud sync. Sync is off until you turn it on. When you do, the app copies your recordings and their details into the private database of your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account can see them. That storage belongs to you: we cannot read it, we do not receive a copy, and turning sync off stops further copies. Recordings imported from files and from Apple Watch are included so they reach your other devices too. Apple handles that data under Apple's Privacy Policy.
3. Transcription & Speech Recognition
Transcription only ever runs on a recording when you ask for it, and only on the recording you choose. It is never automatic and never runs in the background.
On-device recognition. On devices and iOS versions that support on-device speech recognition for the language you pick, the entire transcription happens on your iPhone or iPad. The audio does not leave your device, and it works without an internet connection. The first time you use a language, iOS may download that language's speech model to your device.
Apple's speech recognition service. Where on-device recognition isn't available for the language or device, the app uses Apple's speech recognition, which sends the audio of the recording you selected to Apple for processing and requires an internet connection. In that case Apple handles the audio under Apple's Privacy Policy. We are not given a copy of the audio or the returned text; the result is written straight to your device. If you would rather no audio ever leaves your device, don't use transcription for languages that require the online service.
Finished transcripts are stored locally alongside the recording. Deleting a recording deletes its transcript too.
4. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to: operate, maintain, and improve the app; diagnose and fix crashes and bugs; measure how features are used so we can make them better; process and verify your purchase and unlock PRO features; show ads in the free version and measure how they perform; measure how well our own App Store ads bring in subscribers; and respond to your support requests. We do not use this information to build a profile of you, and we do not access the contents of your recordings or transcripts.
5. Advertising & Tracking
The free version of Voice Recorder shows a banner ad on the recording and library screens, served by Google AdMob. Buying Voice Recorder PRO removes all ads. Two product rules keep the ads away from your recordings: ad audio is permanently muted, and the banners stop refreshing while a recording is running — an ad can never play sound into your microphone or interrupt a take.
Tracking permission. Shortly after you first launch the app, iOS shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you allow tracking, Google may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to show you more relevant, personalized ads. If you decline, the app works exactly the same and ads are simply non-personalized. You can change your answer at any time in iOS Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Tracking. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, a Google consent form (Google's User Messaging Platform) is also shown before any ad is requested, and you can decline personalized ads there too.
We also advertise the app itself on the App Store through Apple Search Ads. Apple's AdServices framework tells us which campaign an install came from; Apple designed that framework so it works without revealing anything about you beyond the campaign. Nothing in it — and nothing in the ads shown in the app — gives anyone access to your recordings, your transcripts, or the microphone.
6. Permissions
Microphone. Required to record. iOS asks for your permission the first time, and the microphone is used only while you are actively recording. You can revoke it at any time in iOS Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Microphone — the app simply won't be able to record until you grant it again.
Speech recognition. Requested the first time you transcribe something, as described in Section 3. Declining it means transcription is unavailable; everything else in the app keeps working.
Tracking (optional). Requested once, shortly after first launch, and used only for personalized ads in the free version as described in Section 5. Declining changes nothing about how the app works.
Network. The app uses your internet connection to process purchases, run analytics and crash reporting, load ads in the free version, sync to your own iCloud account if you turn sync on, and — only where on-device recognition isn't available — to transcribe through Apple's service. Recording, playback, trimming and on-device transcription all work offline.
File sharing. Your recordings are visible in the app's folder when you connect your device to a computer, so you can copy them out yourself. That is a feature of your device; the files are not sent anywhere by the app.
7. Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Apple (App Store / StoreKit for purchases; iCloud / CloudKit if you turn sync on; speech recognition where on-device recognition isn't available; Apple Search Ads attribution) — apple.com/legal/privacy
- Google Firebase (analytics, crash diagnostics, remote configuration and the database that holds our campaign and purchase logs) — firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Google AdMob & Google User Messaging Platform (the banner ad in the free version, and the EEA/UK ads consent form) — policies.google.com/privacy
8. Data Sharing & Selling
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers. In the free version, Google receives the device information described in Sections 1 and 5 in order to serve and measure ads. Beyond that, we share information only with the service providers listed above, and only to the extent needed to operate and improve the service — or where we are legally required to do so, such as to comply with a valid legal request or to protect our rights and the safety of our users. We cannot share your recordings or transcripts with anyone, including in response to a legal request, because we never have them.
9. Data Retention
We keep information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Aggregated and diagnostic data may be retained for analysis. Your recordings and transcripts stay on your device until you delete them or remove the app. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.
10. Security
Your recordings are protected by your device's own security — its passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and iOS file protection. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect the limited information we handle. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children's Privacy
Voice Recorder is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
12. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including the right to access it, to correct it, and to request its deletion. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time in iOS Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Tracking (and, in the EEA/UK, through the ads consent form) — ads then remain but are non-personalized. To exercise a right, email us at [email protected] and we will respond in accordance with applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
13. International Transfers
We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than the one in which you live. Where we transfer data internationally, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect it, consistent with applicable data protection laws.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the app evolves or as the law requires. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes may be highlighted in the app. Your continued use of Voice Recorder after an update means you accept the revised policy.
