Privacy Policy
How Remote TV & Casting handles your information — what stays on your device, what goes to your TV, and what we collect to run the app.
Pro App LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Remote TV & Casting app for iPhone and iPad ("Remote TV," "the app"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By downloading, installing, or using Remote TV, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
The short version
- No account, no sign‑in, no ads. The app does not ask for tracking permission and does not use your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA).
- Remote control happens on your home network. Button presses, the text you type, and pairing go directly from your device to your TV — with one exception for some Xumo TVs, described in Section 4.
- Your TVs stay on your device. TV names, IP and MAC addresses, and pairing keys are saved on your iPhone or iPad. We do not upload them.
- We do collect some data to keep the app working and to run our business: usage and crash data through Google Firebase, purchase and subscription records, and Apple Search Ads attribution. The details are below.

1. Information We Collect
You can use Remote TV without creating an account or giving us your name, email address, or phone number.
Information you provide
Nothing is required. If you email us at [email protected], we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and we use it to answer you.
Usage and diagnostic data
The app uses Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics and Remote Config) to understand how the app is used and to fix problems. This automatically collects:
- Device and app information — device model, operating system version, app version, language, an app instance ID created by Firebase, and your approximate country or region, which Google derives from your IP address.
- How you use the app — for example, screens you open, the type of remote button you press (such as “volume up”), the remote mode you use, when you connect to or disconnect from a TV, whether a connection or TV search succeeded, when screen mirroring starts, paywall views, purchases (which product), and responses to rating prompts.
- TV and network diagnostics — the platform or brand of TVs the app finds and connects to (such as “Samsung” or “Roku”), how many TVs were found, Wake‑on‑LAN attempts, and whether a VPN is active on your device, because a VPN can stop the app from finding TVs.
- TV apps you open — the name of a TV app you launch from Remote TV (such as “YouTube”), as reported by your TV.
- Crash reports — technical details about a crash, together with your TV’s platform and whether you have Remote TV Pro.
These analytics events do not include your TVs’ names, IP or MAC addresses, your Wi‑Fi network name, the text you type, or what you watch.
Identifiers
The app uses the identifier for vendor (IDFV) — an ID that iOS gives to apps from the same developer on your device, and that resets when you remove all of our apps — and the Firebase app instance ID. The app does not access your advertising identifier (IDFA).
2. Your TVs & Home Network
To work as a remote, Remote TV needs access to your local network. iOS asks for this permission the first time the app looks for TVs.
- Finding TVs. The app looks for TVs on the network your device is connected to, using standard discovery protocols (Bonjour/mDNS and SSDP), by checking devices on your local network for TV services, and by reading the descriptions TVs publish about themselves (such as brand and model).
- Controlling your TV. Button presses, touchpad gestures, and the text you type are sent directly from your device to your TV over your local network, using your TV’s own control protocol. We do not receive them.
- Pairing. The first time you connect, some TVs ask you to select Allow or to enter a code. The app then saves the pairing keys, tokens, or certificates your TV issues so it can reconnect later. Some TVs (such as LG, Vizio and Fire TV) receive a name for your device during pairing so they can show what is connecting; this is sent only to the TV.
- Turning your TV on. To wake a TV over the network (Wake‑on‑LAN), the app reads your TV’s hardware (MAC) address from your device’s network table or from the TV, saves it on your device, and sends “wake” packets on your local network.
- App icons. The Apps tab may load app icons from web addresses provided by your TV. Some of those addresses are on the internet and operated by the TV’s platform provider, which will see your IP address, as with any web request.
What stays on your device. The app saves the TVs you’ve connected to (names, custom names, IP and MAC addresses, brand and model), up to five recent TVs, pairing data (some of it in the iOS Keychain), cached app lists, and your Pro status. None of this is uploaded to us. You can remove a recent TV with Forget this TV. Settings ▸ Reset all pairings removes the pairing data for all of your TVs, along with your recent TVs. Deleting the app removes the rest — except pairing credentials kept in the iOS Keychain, which can remain after the app is deleted, so use Reset all pairings first if you want those removed too.
3. Screen Mirroring (AirPlay)
Casting in Remote TV uses AirPlay, which is built into iOS and iPadOS. When you tap Start mirroring, the app opens Apple’s AirPlay picker; the mirrored picture and sound travel from your device to your TV through AirPlay, handled by iOS. Remote TV does not access, record, or upload what is on your screen. AirPlay is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
4. Xumo TVs
Some Xumo TV models — for example, Xumo TVs sold under brands such as Element, Hisense, Pioneer, Sharp and Westinghouse — can only be controlled through an online service operated by Comcast for the Xumo TV platform. For these TVs, and only these TVs:
- when you pair, the app sends the code shown on your TV, a label for your device (such as “Remote TV (iPhone)”), and a random installation ID to that service;
- while you use the remote, your button presses and digits are sent to that service over the internet, which passes them to your TV;
- the app periodically checks with the service that the TV is still reachable.
That service processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy (see xumo.com/privacy). Reset all pairings in Settings removes the pairing from the service. Other Xumo models, and all other TV brands, are controlled over your local network only.
5. How We Use Information
We use the information described in this policy to:
- provide the app’s features, including finding, pairing with, and controlling your TVs;
- diagnose and fix crashes, and connection problems that affect particular TV brands;
- understand which features are used, so we can improve them;
- process purchases, unlock Remote TV Pro, and handle subscription renewals, cancellations, and refunds;
- measure how well our own marketing — such as Apple Search Ads — brings in users and subscribers;
- change settings in the app remotely (for example, which plans the upgrade screen shows) through Firebase Remote Config;
- respond to your support requests, and comply with our legal obligations.
We do not use this information to show you ads, and we do not sell it.
6. Purchases & Subscriptions
Purchases of Remote TV Pro are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your card number or other payment details.
- In the app. When you buy, the app records the transaction ID, the product, whether it began with a free trial, the purchase date, which screen and button led to the purchase, the app version, your IDFV, and your Firebase app instance ID. It also gives Apple your app instance ID with the purchase, so that later subscription events can be matched to your installation.
- From Apple. Apple sends us notifications about subscription events — such as a trial starting, a renewal, a cancellation, a refund, or an expiration — including transaction IDs, the product, price, currency, App Store country, relevant dates, auto‑renewal status, and refund details. We store these records and send cancellation events to Google Analytics, linked to your app instance ID.
We use these records to unlock Pro, to understand how subscriptions perform, and to handle billing questions.
7. Advertising & Attribution
The app shows no ads, does not ask for permission to track you, and does not use the IDFA.
We advertise Remote TV on the App Store through Apple Search Ads. To learn which campaign an install came from, the app uses Apple’s AdServices framework: it obtains an attribution token from Apple and sends the token to Apple’s attribution service. It also sends the token to our server, together with your IDFV, App Store country, and app version, and our server asks Apple about the install as well. If the install came from one of our Apple Search Ads campaigns, we store the campaign details Apple returns (such as campaign, ad group, keyword and ad IDs, country or region, and the date of the ad interaction) with your IDFV and install date, and add the campaign, keyword, and country to our analytics. If it did not, we record an organic install with the install date, App Store country, and app version. Apple designed AdServices to report campaign information without identifying you personally.
Google Analytics for Firebase may also use app event data to help measure how our own advertising campaigns perform, as described in Google’s Privacy Policy.
8. Permissions
Local Network — required to find and control TVs, as described in Section 2. You can turn it off at any time in iOS Settings ▸ Remote TV (or Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Local Network), but the app won’t be able to find or control your TVs without it.
Remote TV does not request access to your camera, photos, microphone, contacts, location, or tracking. It uses your internet connection for purchases, analytics and crash reports, Remote Config, Apple Search Ads attribution, loading some app icons, and the Xumo service described in Section 4.
9. Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of service providers, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Apple — App Store purchases and subscription notifications, Apple Search Ads and AdServices attribution, AirPlay — apple.com/legal/privacy
- Google Firebase — Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config, and Cloud Firestore and Cloud Functions, which store and process our purchase and attribution records — firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Comcast / Xumo — the online control service for some Xumo TVs (Section 4) — xumo.com/privacy
Your TV and its platform (for example Samsung, LG, Roku, Amazon, Google, Apple, Vizio, VIDAA or Xumo) handle the commands and pairing requests they receive under their own policies.
10. Data Sharing & Selling
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers. We share information only with the service providers listed above, to the extent needed to operate the app; when required by law, such as to comply with a valid legal request; to protect our rights, our users, or others; or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to the information transferred.
11. Data Retention
- On your device — saved TVs, pairing data, and settings stay until you forget a TV, use Reset all pairings, or delete the app (see Section 2 about the Keychain).
- Google Analytics — event‑level data is kept for 2 months, and user‑level data for 14 months after your last activity. After that, it is available only in aggregated reports.
- Crashlytics — crash reports are kept for 90 days.
- Attribution tokens — deleted once Apple has answered, or after they expire (within about a day).
- Purchase, subscription, and attribution records — kept for as long as we need them to provide Remote TV Pro, measure our campaigns, handle billing questions and refunds, and meet legal and accounting obligations. After that, we delete or anonymize them.
- Support emails — kept as long as needed to help you and keep a record of the conversation.
12. Security
Pairing data on your device is protected by iOS, including the Keychain and your device passcode. Data sent to Firebase and Apple is encrypted in transit, and access to our records is limited. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Children’s Privacy
Remote TV is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
14. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to receive a copy of it. We process information to provide the app you asked for, and on the basis of our legitimate interests in keeping the app working, improving it, and measuring our marketing.
To make a request, email [email protected]. Because we don’t know your name or email address, we may need details to find your records — for purchase records, the order ID from your Apple receipt is the easiest. You can delete everything the app stores on your device yourself, as described in Section 2. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
California residents: in the past 12 months we have collected identifiers (such as the IDFV, app instance ID and transaction IDs), commercial information (purchase and subscription records), internet or other electronic network activity (app usage and diagnostics), and approximate location (country or region) for the purposes described in Section 5. We do not sell personal information.
15. International Transfers
We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than the one where you live, including the United States. Where we transfer data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the standard contractual clauses our providers offer, consistent with applicable data protection laws.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes or as the law requires. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page, and significant changes may also be noted in the app. Your continued use of Remote TV after an update means you accept the revised policy.
